Quebec City, QC (Sports Network) - Top-seeded Nadia Petrova and sixth- seeded Bethanie Mattek each advanced with second-round wins Wednesday at the $175,000 Bell Challenge tennis event.

The Russian Petrova had little trouble in dispatching American qualifier Varvara Lepchenko, 6-2, 6-4.

Meanwhile, the American Mattek struggled to get past Canadian wildcard Valerie Tetreault, needing a pair of tiebreak set wins. Mattek toughed out a 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 7-6 (7-1) win.

In other second-round action on the indoor hardcourts at PEPS at Laval University, American Melanie Oudin got past Russian Olga Puchkova 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) and Hungarian Melinda Czink crushed American Julie Ditty 6-1, 6-1. Puchkova was the runner-up here two years ago.

The first round concluded on Wednesday when Canadian qualifier Rebecca Marino, making her WTA Tour debut, topped 34-year-old American Jill Craybas 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.

The 2008 Quebec champion will collect $28,000.
