  • Blake cruised past Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-3, 6-2 in a mere 55 minutes on the hardcourts at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. The struggling 30-year- old Blake improved to a pedestrian 6-5 this season.

    Nalbandian, who reached as high as third in the world rankings, topped qualifier Stefan Koubek 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) in nearly one hour, 15 minutes. He reached the quarterfinals at Copa Telmex earlier this year before pulling out with an injury.

    On Sunday, doubles specialists Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram kept the Israelis alive, at 1-2, with a 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (11-9), 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory over a Chilean tandem of Jorge Aguilar and Paul Capdeville.

  • In a pair of dead rubbers on Sunday, Steve Darcis got Belgium on the scoreboard with a 7-6 (8-6), 1-6, 6-4 victory over Jan Hajek, and Lukas Dlouhy capped the tie for the Czechs by overcoming Christophe Rochus 1-6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5.

    The Czechs will meet the Chile-Israel victor in the quarterfinals in July.

  • The former Wimbledon runner-up Nalbandian captured the fifth and deciding rubber by handling Vinciguerra in 7-5, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 fashion at Kungliga Tennis Hall. Nalbandian, who prevailed in 2 hours, 35 minutes on Day 3, replaced Eduardo Schwank for the final rubber, while Vinciguerra moved in for Joachim Johansson.

    This marks only Nalbandian's second event this year after returning to action following hip surgery last year.

  • Massu got the Chileans going with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Dudi Sela, and Gonzalez doubled the hosts' advantage by overcoming Harel Levy 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 on the red clay in Coquimbo.

    This week's matchup started a day late -- Saturday instead of Friday -- because of the tragic earthquake and tsunami that struck Chile last week, killing about 800 people.

    In Friday's opening singles here, the French Open runner-up Soderling handled Eduardo Schwank 6-1, 7-6 (7-0), 7-5 before Leonardo Mayer pulled Argentina even with a 5-7, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 victory over 6-foot-6 Swedish slugger Joachim Johansson.

  • Bryan played without his twin brother Mike on Day 2, as the towering Isner, making his Davis Cup doubles debut, was a late substitute and got his first- ever Davis Cup win in a surprising 7-6 (10-8), 5-7, 7-6 (10-8), 6-3 decision against Tipsarevic and Zimonjic, the top-ranked doubles player in the world, on the red clay at Belgrade Arena. The U.S. prevailed in 3 hours, 6 minutes.

    This marked Bob Bryan's first-ever Davis Cup doubles rubber without his brother Mike at his side.

  • Berdych and Stepanek, who both won singles matches here on Friday to give the Czechs a commanding 2-0 advantage, blew past a Belgian tandem of Steve Darcis and Olivier Rochus 7-6 (7-0), 6-0, 6-3 in 1 hour, 56 minutes on an indoor hardcourt at Bree's Expodroom on Day 2. The Czechs originally had Lukas Dlouhy and Jan Hajek scheduled to play the doubles.

    On Friday, Berdych blitzed Rochus 6-3, 6-0, 6-4 and Stepanek handled Xavier Malisse 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), as the Czechs have swept the first nine sets here.
