  • Dejair, Eskandarian lead Chivas USA past United, 3-0

    Washington, D.C.

(Sports Network) - Chivas USA won its third straight Major League Soccer fixture, and fifth in the last six - 3-0 at D.C. United - to solidify its position in the second spot in the Western Conference table.

Alecko Eskandarian and the newly signed Dejair each had a goal and an assist to lead the Goats to their 11th victory of the season. Chivas USA (11-10-6) is now just one point behind Houston for the top spot in the West before the Dynamo's match at Colorado late Saturday night.

(10-14-3) on the other hand, drops its fourth in the past five while extending its winless streak to six games to fall further out of the playoff picture with just three games to go in the regular season.

United goalkeeper Louis Crayton gift-wrapped Chivas USA's first goal in the 35th minute.

After a back pass from one of his defenders, Crayton allowed Dejair to steal the ball off him at the top of the United penalty area. The Brazilian midfielder then passed to Eskandarian, who fired into an open net.

It was Eskandarian's fifth goal of the season and third in the past three games - all wins.

The visitors doubled their advantage in the 56th minute after an impressive buildup in the offensive third.

Sacha Kljestan capped off a five-player buildup with the final pass to Eskandarian, who fired on goal. Crayton made the save but was unable to control the rebound as Sasha Victorine pounded in his third goal of the season and second in the past two games.

Dejair, in his first MLS game since signing with Chivas USA following a 12- year career in Brazil, scored his first goal to close out the scoring in the 68th minute. Eskandarian and Kljestan got assists on the play.

United will aim to snap its winless streak when it travels to Houston on Oct.
