  • Hoops dominate D.C. United at Pizza Hut Park

Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - FC Dallas got goals from Andre Rocha, Jeff Cunningham and Kenny Cooper to dispose of visiting D.C.

United, 3-0, at Pizza Hut Park in Major League Soccer action on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Hoops are now tied with United for the ninth spot in the league's overall table with four games to go. If the playoffs started today, neither team would make it, but they are both within striking distance of a wild card spot.

The Hoops got Sunday's first goal just nine minutes in when Rocha fired a direct free-kick into the United penalty area from 40 yards. The D.C. defense allowed the ball to bounce at the top of the six-yard box and past goalkeeper Louis Crayton.

Crayton made a big save on Kenny Cooper in the 23rd minute to keep United close when Rocha curled a free-kick into the box to Cooper, who was wide open. Cooper headed the ball right at Crayton, however, and he got a hand on it to knock it away.

Cunningham doubled the home side's advantage in the 56th minute when Bruno Guarda played a bouncing cross into the box from the left side. Cunningham got a foot on the ball to deflect past Crayton.

With the game pretty much decided, United captain Jaime Moreno earned a stupid ejection for elbowing Guarda right in the face directly in front of referee Ricardo Salazar.

Cooper added a goal in stoppage time to close out the scoring when he collected the ball in the offensive third, deked around Clyde Simms at the top of the box, and fired a left footed shot past Crayton. It was Cooper's 15th goal of the season.

Dallas (8-9-9), which has won two straight, will aim to continue its current form when it hosts San Jose on Thursday while United (10-13-3) hosts Chivas USA on Saturday.
