Chivas USA jump to 2nd in West with win over K.C.
Carson, CA (Sports Network) - Chivas USA won its fourth Major League Soccer fixture in it's last five, to jump into second place in the Western Conference table, with a 2-1 win over the Kansas City Wizards at The Home Depot Center on Saturday night.
Alecko Eskandarian and Sasha Victorine scored first-half goals for the Goats, who hung on in the second half to hand the Wizards (8-10-8) their third loss in their last five league fixtures.
Eskandarian got the game's first goal just 26 minutes in when Ante Razov played a ball over the top to the left side of the Wizards' penalty area to Victorine, who played a ball across to the New Jersey native. Eskandarian then one-timed a blast past Wizards goalkeeper Kevin Hartman for his fourth goal of the season and second in as many games.
Victorine doubled the home side's advantage seconds before the first-half break when Atiba Harris chipped a ball to the top of the six. Victorine got on the end of the pass and fired a perfect shot into the top right corner for his second goal of the season.
The Wizards, who didn't generate a shot on goal in the first half, finally got on the scoreboard 20 minutes from time when Josh Wolff bicycled a bouncing ball from the top of the Chivas USA six-yard box into the far post side netting to make it 2-1.
That was as close at they could get, however, as they stay stuck second-from- the-bottom in the Eastern Conference table.
The Wizards will try to rebound at Chicago on Oct.
5 while Chivas USA (10-10-6) plays at D.C. a day earlier in its next league fixture.
