  • Galaxy acquire Revs' Franchino

Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - The New England Revolution traded midfielder/defender Joe Franchino to the Los Angeles Galaxy in exchange for L.A.'s second-round selection in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, the clubs announced Friday.

"Joe is an experienced, veteran player who will add some needed versatility to our club," Galaxy Director of Soccer Paul Bravo said. "He brings a lot to the table and will be able to help the club immediately."

Franchino, 31, has appeared in 211 career Major League Soccer games, scoring five goals and 23 assists. He began his career with the Galaxy in 1998 when L.A. drafted him out of Washington in the third round of the MLS College Draft. Franchino came to New England in 2000 through the MLS Special Draft.

"We want to thank Joe for all of his contributions to our success since his arrival in New England in 2000," Revolution Director of Soccer Michael Burns said. " We wish him the best of luck in Los Angeles."

In order to make room for Franchino on the Galaxy's 18-man senior roster, defender Michael Gavin has been moved to the club's developmental roster as a Senior Developmental player.
