Dynamo, United renew acquaintances in league action

(Sports Network) - The Houston Dynamo and D.C. United will play a makeup Major League Soccer fixture on Tuesday after having their regularly scheduled game rained out last month.

The teams will be very familiar with each other after just playing on Saturday in the SuperLiga fixture that saw the Dynamo top United, 3-1, eliminating the Washington, D.C. squad from the North American club tournament.

Former MLS MVP Carlos Ruiz scored his first goal of the season to give L.A. the early lead but Dave van den Bergh and Juan Pablo Angel scored for the Red Bulls to set up the exciting finish.

Donovan had the ball just outside the left corner of the penalty area and tried to find teammate Edson Buddle with a cross. Buddle jumped to head the ball and New York goalie Jon Conway was waiting for a deflection. But the cross was high and the ball went over Buddle and sailed just inside the right post.

Dominguez joins the Galaxy after playing in Argentina and Colombia since the start of his professional career in 1996. A native of Lanus, Argentina, Dominguez has played in more than 200 games for six different clubs. He last played from Huracan of the Argentine Primera Division, while also spending time with fellow Argentine clubs Velez Sarsfield, Olimpo, Racing Club, Independiente and Colombian side Medellin.

Additionally, the Galaxy have waived defender Abel Xavier.

Report: Ex-U.S. captain Reyna to retire from MLS

Reyna, 34, played for the United States from 1994-2006. He made 112 appearances for the U.S., scoring eight goals and contributing 19 assists. He spent most of his club career in Europe before joining Major League Soccer last season.

The Red Bulls have scheduled a news conference on Wednesday at 2 p.m. (ET) when Reyna is expected to announce his retirement.
