Report: Donovan officially signs contract with Florida

Florida basketball spokesman Fred Demarest confirmed the signing to the Orlando Sentinel, with the contract set to pay Donovan $3.5 million per year through the 2012-13 season. He was paid by those terms last season despite never actually signing the deal, according to Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley.

Donovan signed a lucrative five-year deal to coach the Magic in June 2007 but regretted the decision and spent the next several days trying to get out of his contract.

Duke, UCLA, Michigan highlight 2K Sports Classic field

Pitt extends Dixon for three years

Dixon is beginning his sixth season as head coach of the Panthers, and his 10th year at Pitt. The only coach in program history to lead Pitt to five consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, five straight 20-win overall and 10- win league seasons, Dixon has guided the Panthers to a 132-40 mark overall.

"I am grateful to the University of Pittsburgh for the opportunity and support that I have received here," said Dixon.

UMKC gives Brown extension

Brown is entering his second season with the Kangaroos, who posted a record of 11-21 last year.

Syracuse's Devendorf granted extra year

Devendorf will be classified as a senior academically, but will now have two seasons of athletic eligibility remaining.

After starting 10 games as a junior last season, Devendorf suffered a torn ACL in a December 15 contest against East Tennessee State. The university applied to the conference for a hardship waiver and it was granted in part because he did not participate in 30 percent of his team's 35 games.

Trojans' Simmons undergoes surgery

Trojans head coach Tim Floyd made the announcement Friday concerning the surgery, which was performed Tuesday by Dr. David Thordarson at USC Hospital. Simmons saw limited action in 15 games last season as a freshman due to a high ankle sprain suffered on the first day of practice.

NCAA rules permit coaches to contact prospective student-athletes in person, by telephone, by e-mail and through correspondence, but a new NCAA rule prohibits contact with prospective student-athletes by text messaging. This new rule went into effect August 1, 2007.

However, according to Richmond, certain members of the schools' men's and women's basketball coaching staffs continued to text message with prospective student-athletes after August 1.

Coaching legend Don Haskins dies

The El Paso Times reports Haskins died of congestive heart failure.

In 1966, Haskins coached Texas Western to the NCAA championship over the University of Kentucky, which was guided by coaching great Adolph Rupp. The story though was that Haskins made history by starting five black players for the first time in a championship game against Kentucky's all-white squad.

Lawrence leaves Missouri to play for Seton Hall

The 6-foot-2 Lawrence will not be eligible to play this season, as per NCAA transfer rules, but will have junior playing eligibility in 2009-10 upon his return.

Last season at Mizzou, the 175-pound guard played in all 32 games, averaging a team-high 29.2 minutes per game. He averaged 11.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game while making 20 starts, including a 25-point performance at Kansas.

American Univ. gives head men's hoops coach new contract

Crean officially signs 10-year deal with Indiana

SEC and CBS Sports agree to 15-year extension

Beginning with the 2009-10 season CBS Sports will continue to cover SEC home football games including the SEC championship, as well as SEC regular-season basketball.

Under the agreement, CBS will showcase each week's conference matchup with the SEC "Game of the Week." In addition to the broadcast rights, the deal includes certain digital, Internet, wireless, video-on-demand and enhanced highlight rights.

Arkansas star Beverley will not play next season

Runnin' Rebs give Kruger contract extension
