McMurray wins pole for Nationwide race at Lowe's
Concord, NC (Sports Network) - Jamie McMurray will start on the pole for Friday night's Dollar General 300 Nationwide Series race at the Lowe's Motor Speedway.
The No.17 Roush Fenway Racing Ford driver grabbed the top starting spot with a qualifying time of 29.267 seconds (184.508 m.p.h.).
McMurray recorded his second Nationwide pole of the season and the third of his career.
"(Crew chief) Pierre Kuettel and all of these guys just did a great job on this car, and I really need to thank Doug Yates and everybody at Roush Fenway and at the engine shop; they've done a wonderful job," McMurray said.
Starting alongside McMurray will be Jeff Burton, who posted the second fastest qualifying time of 29.530.
Carl Edwards (29.648) and Joey Logano (29.682) will start on the second row.
Clint Bowyer will start fifth. Bowyer currently holds a 196-point lead over Edwards with five races to go in the season.
Kevin Harvick, Marcos Ambrose, Dave Blaney, Kelly Bires and Jimmie Johnson will start sixth through 10th, respectively.
Several drivers spun and crashed into the wall during their qualifying efforts, including Sprint Cup Series regular Brian Vickers, who will have to start his backup No.32 Toyota from the rear of the field.
"That was in my hands, and I lost it," Vickers said. "The sun came out right there, and (crew chief) Trent (Owens) came over the radio and said (Keselowski) was really, really loose when the sun came out, and I probably should of heeded that more than I did." The green flag is scheduled to drop around 8:00 p.m. (et).
