Three finalists named for 2007 Hobey Baker Award
St. Paul, MN (Sports Network) - North Dakota forward Ryan Duncan is one of three finalists for the 2007 Hobey Baker Award, announced on Wednesday.
The award is presented annually to the nation's best men's hockey player, and is traditionally given out the day before the national championship game, which takes place on Saturday, April 7 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
Goaltender David Brown of Notre Dame and Eric Ehn of Air Force are the remaining two players, selected from the original list of 10 announced earlier this month.
Duncan helped the Fighting Sioux earn their third straight trip to the NCAA Frozen Four by posting 31 goals and 57 points in 42 games. The diminutive sophomore forward has scored 17 power-play goals, second best in the country, and was named Western Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Year in 2006-2007.
Brown finished his senior season with a 30-6-3 record and a national-best 1.58 goals against average in 39 games, leading the Irish to their first-ever Central Collegiate Hockey Association regular season and playoff titles.
Ehn, a junior forward, finished the year with 24 goals and 64 points. He placed second in the nation in assists with 40, and took the second slot in points as well, while setting the Atlantic Hockey Association record for points in one season.
Former NHL player Tony Hrkac was the last North Dakota player to win the honor in 1987. To date, no player from either Notre Dame or Air Force has won the prize.
Matt Carle, currently a member of the San Jose Sharks, took home the honor in 2006 from the University of Denver.
