  • In Game 5 on Thursday, Boston scored four goals in the third to win 5-1, and stave off elimination. In Game 6, the Bruins did the same to tie the best-of- seven series at three games apiece. The seventh and final game is now set for Monday in Montreal.

    Marco Sturm, Milan Lucic, and Vladimir Sobotka all tallied for the Bruins, while Tim Thomas stopped 31-of-35 shots in the win.

  • Koivu suffered a fractured bone in his left foot on March 28, and has been out since, missing Montreal's past nine games dating back to the regular season.

    The 33-year-old Koivu had 16 goals and 40 assists in 77 games this season and has 36 points (13 goals, 23 assists) in 43 career playoff games.

  • Knuble, who won Game 4 with a double-overtime goal on Thursday, slid awkwardly while trying to block a shot late in the second period of Saturday's 3-2 Washington Capitals win in Game 5. He appeared to catch his leg in a rut on the ice while sliding, and was quickly escorted to the locker room for evaluation.

    The 35-year-old has been a major factor in his team's success this postseason, collecting two goals and three assists through the first four contests.

  • Nicklas Backstrom and Sergei Fedorov tallied for the Capitals, who trail the series three games to two and head back to Philadelphia for Game 6 on Monday.

    Cristobal Huet made 30 saves for his second win of the postseason.

  • The sixth-seeded Avalanche trailed two games to one in this series, but have notched two straight victories to take a 3-2 edge in the best-of-seven set.

    Minnesota, the Northwest Division champion and the third seed in the West, needs to win the final two games of this series to advance to the conference semifinals.

  • The Canadiens have held two-game leads twice in the series at 2-0 and 3-1, but have lost the following test on both occasions. Montreal had its first chance to end the series on Thursday, but was pounded on its home ice by the Bruins.

    Glen Metropolit scored the first of four Boston goals in the third period, as the Bruins staved off elimination with a 5-1 rout of the Habs in Game 5.

  • The Capitals struck first with a home win in Game 1, but Philadelphia has rattled off three straight victories to take a 3-1 series' lead. Washington has no margin for error and has to win three in a row to advance to the conference semifinals.

    Washington has come back from a 3-1 deficit once before against the Flyers, as it won the final three games to shock Philadelphia in the 1988 Patrick Division semifinals.

  • Corey Perry, Sean O'Donnell and Todd Marchant each had a goal for the Ducks, who now trail the best-of-seven series, 3-2. Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 40 saves in the win.

    "It wasn't always pretty, but we did the job and found a way to win. Giguere said. "It was do or die. I wanted to leave it all on the table."

  • Chris Osgood, starting in place of a struggling Dominik Hasek, stopped 20 shots for the top-seeded Red Wings, who grabbed a 3-2 series edge and have a chance to move to the semifinals on Sunday with a victory in Nashville.

    Valtteri Filppula scored in the first period for Detroit, which has won all three of its games at Joe Louis Arena.

  • Scott Gomez, Chris Drury, Brandon Dubinsky and Michal Rozsival each had a goal for the Rangers, who avenged a four-game sweep at the hands of the Devils in the opening round of the 2006 playoffs. Henrik Lundqvist finished the game with 23 saves.

    Brian Gionta, Patrik Elias and Bryce Salvador each had a goal for the Devils, who were knocked in the first round of the playoffs for the first time since Philadelphia beat them in the opening round in 2004. Martin Brodeur allowed four goals on 22 shots in the game.

  • The fourth-seeded Ducks became the first-ever West Coast team to win a Stanley Cup championship last year, as they defeated Ottawa in five games to also earn the first league crown in franchise history.

    Anaheim is trying to become the first team to win back-to-back Stanley Cup championships since Detroit did it in 1997 and '98. However, the Ducks will now have to climb out of a 3-1 series' hole against Dallas just to get out of the first round.

  • The Red Wings won two straight on their home ice to take a 2-0 edge in this series, but the eighth-seeded Predators bounced back to tie the set with two victories in a row on their home ice.

    Detroit will try to keep the pattern going tonight, as it seeks another victory in the Motor City. The Red Wings were the best home team in the NHL this year, posting a 29-9-3 record as the host club.

  • The Blueshirts hold a 3-1 edge in the best-of-seven series and have already won twice in this set on New Jersey's home ice. Including the regular season, the Rangers are 10-1-1 against the Devils this year and 5-0-1 in Newark.

    New York extended its series' lead on Wednesday, as it posted a 5-3 decision at Madison Square Garden.

  • Joe Pavelski and Patrick Marleau each had a goal and assist for San Jose, which leads the best-of-seven series 3-2, and can win it in Game 6, set for Sunday in Calgary. Evgeni Nabokov turned aside 33-of-36 shots in the win.

    "The next one will be the toughest. We have to rest up here and get ready for that one," Marleau said. "It's going to be desperate hockey, on both parts, I think. You will see them come out strong like they have the last couple of games."

  • Joel Lundqvist and Steve Ott also scored for the Stars, who lead the series, 3-1. Marty Turco stopped 28-of-29 shots to earn the win.

    "Everybody wanted to come out strong after the other night," Barnes said. "We played better all around and got an early goal. The defense did a great job holding them off and Marty was great. We have to play complete games and not give Anaheim anything. We need to make sure we're at our best tomorrow night."

  • Andrew Brunette also scored, while Peter Forsberg and Milan Hejduk added two assists apiece for the Avalanche, who lead the best-of-seven series 3-2, and get a chance to close it out in Game 6, set for Saturday in Denver.

    Jose Theodore made 38 saves, helping Colorado win despite being out-shot 40-17.

  • Marco Sturm, Zdeno Chara, Vladimir Sobotka and Phil Kessel each scored for Boston, which drew within 3-2 in the best-of-seven series. The Bruins had scored only five goals all series, and were shut out in Game 4.

    Andrew Ference and David Krejci each added two assists, while Tim Thomas stopped 31-of-32 shots in the win.

  • Perry suffered a quad injury on March 6, a 1-0 loss at Colorado. The 22-year- old led Anaheim with 29 goals in 70 games before having a tendon in his right thigh partially severed by the skate blade of Colorado netminder Jose Theodore midway through the third period.

    The Peterborough, Ontario native had surgery to repair the damage and missed the final 12 games of the regular season and the first three of the playoffs.

  • (Sports Network) - It's been said that revenge is a dish best served cold. The Pittsburgh Penguins seemed to have little use for that proverb in their opening-round series against the Ottawa Senators.

    Last year, the Penguins made it back to the playoffs for the first time since 2001, but their stay wasn't long, as Ottawa won the conference quarterfinal series in five games en route to a run to the Stanley Cup finals.

  • Timonen suffered an upper body injury in the latter stages of the second period during the Flyers' 6-3 win Game 3 on Tuesday. After releasing a shot, he was checked from behind into the Capitals' net by Brooks Laich and fell hard on his shoulder onto a camera mounted in the back of the cage.

    The 32-year-old Finn has one assist so far in the playoffs. He finished the regular season, his first in Philadelphia, with three goals and 20 assists.

  • Both players just completed their college careers with the national champion Boston College Eagles, who topped Notre Dame in the title game last Saturday.

    "We are always looking to bring in players with character, passion, skill and a commitment to winning," said Blackhawks general manager Dale Tallon. "We are proud to add these outstanding young champions to the Blackhawks energetic core of players in our organization."

  • The Canadiens are 2-0 as the host in this series, having won the first two tests on their home ice. The Bruins won Game 3 in overtime Sunday in Boston, but Montreal posted a shutout victory on Tuesday to earn a split in Beantown and take a 3-1 series' edge.

    Montreal is trying to win its first playoff series since also defeating Boston in the 2004 conference quarterfinals.

  • The seventh-seeded Flames posted wins in Games 1 and 3, while San Jose recorded victories in the even-numbered contests.

    The Sharks, champions of the Pacific Division, evened this best-of-seven series at two games apiece with Tuesday's road triumph at the Saddledome.

  • The Wild and Avs met in Denver for Game 4 on Tuesday and Colorado breezed to an easy 5-1 victory at the Pepsi Center.

    Prior to Tuesday's blowout win every game in this series and the previous five playoff meetings in a row between these clubs had been decided by a 3-2 overtime result. Minnesota won Games 6 and 7 of a Western quarterfinal in 2003 and the Wild have taken two of three OT games by that score in this set.

  • The fourth-seeded Ducks are the defending Stanley Cup champions, but will have to climb out of a two-game hole if they want to get out of the opening round this season.

    Dallas won the first two tests of this series in Anaheim, but the Ducks stormed back with a 4-2 triumph Tuesday night in Texas. Chris Pronger posted two goals and an assist, as Anaheim doubled up the Stars and cut its series' deficit to 2-1.
