  • Three tied at fog-delayed British Masters


    West Midlands, England (Sports Network) - Former U.S. Open champion Michael Campbell was four-under through 15 holes Saturday and is one of three players tied for the lead when the third round of the British Masters suspended due to darkness.

    Campbell,Mikael Lundbergand Alejandro Canizares are tied atop the leaderboard at minus-seven.

    Charl Schwartzel has the clubhouse lead as he fired a six-under 66 to jump to six-under-par 210 through three rounds.

    He was joined in a share of fourth by Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, Jeev Milkha Singh, Ross Fisher and defending champion Lee Westwood. Those four players have between four and eight holes remaining in their third rounds.

    For the second straight day, there was a lengthy fog delay at the outset. The second round was completed earlier Saturday after the fog moved out. Just 24 of the 72 players that made the cut were able to complete their third rounds.

    Westwood and Alexander Noren shared the lead at minus-six after two rounds at The Belfry.

    Campbell entered the third round tied for 11th. Like the others near the top of the leaderboard, he played the back nine first in the third round.

    He opened with a birdie on the par-four 10th and came back with a birdie at 12. Campbell sank another birdie putt at 15 to move to six-under.

    Campbell birdied the par-five 17th for the third straight round, but gave that shot back with a bogey at the first. He parred the next three before he snuck in a birdie at the fifth just before play was stopped for the day.

    Lundberg flew out of the gate with birdies on the 10th and 11. However, he gave both of those strokes back as he faltered to bogey at 12 and 13.

    The Swede poured in three straight birdies from the 15th to move to five- under.

    Lundberg birdied the first to get within one of the lead. He birdied No.

    3 for the third consecutive round to gain a share of the lead. He parred the next two before play was halted.

    Canizares parred three straight to start his round. After stumbling to a bogey on the 13th, he bounced back with a birdie on 14.

    The Spaniard birdied the 16th before parring 17 and 18. Around the turn, Canizares birdied the first to get to seven-under before the horns blew stopping play for the day.

    Magnus Carlsson carded a four-under 68 and finished his third round at five- under-par 211. He is alone in ninth, while Paul Lawrie, Thongchai Jaidee and Noren are tied for 10th at minus-four.
