  • Mickelson and Kim go first for Americans at Ryder Cup

Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - Americans Phil Mickelson and Anthony Kim will team up to face European counterparts Padraig Harrington and Robert Karlsson in Friday morning's first foursomes match at the 37th Ryder Cup Matches at Valhalla.

Mickelson, the most-seasoned Ryder Cupper in his seventh appearance, and the rookie Kim, twice a winner this season on the PGA Tour, meet the reigning British Open and PGA Championship winner Harrington and last week's Mercedes- Benz Champion Karlsson at 8:05 a.m. (et) Friday morning.

Justin Leonard, who is playing his first Ryder Cup since holing the winning putt in the last U.S. victory in 1999, and Hunter Mahan will meet Captain Nick Faldo's pick, Paul Casey, and Henrik Stenson in the second foursomes, or alternate-shot, match at 8:20 a.m.

Stewart Cink and Chad Campbell will face Faldo's other selection, Ian Poulter, and Justin Rose at 8:35 a.m.

The final match of Friday morning features Kentucky's own Kenny Perry, along with Jim Furyk against Europe's strongest pair, Sergio Garcia, who is 14-4-2 in four Ryder Cups, and Lee Westwood, who has not lost a match in his last two Ryder Cups. That match goes off at 8:50 a.m.

Sitting for Paul Azinger's American team will be Ben Curtis, Boo Weekley, Steve Stricker and another Kentucky native, J.B. Holmes.

Faldo sat Miguel Angel Jimenez and rookies Oliver Wilson, Soren Hansen and Graeme McDowell.

Friday's action will feature foursomes in the morning and four-balls in the afternoon.

The format is the same on Saturday, with 12 singles matches on tap for Sunday.

Europe has dominated the Ryder Cup, winning five of the last six. The last two Ryder Cups have seen Europe win in historic fashion, taking the trophy by 18 1/2 - 9 1/2 margins.
