Pakulak, Fulton & Thompson earn weekly honors
New York, NY (Sports Network) - Punter GLENN PAKULAK of the Tennessee Titans, wide receiver SKYLER FULTON of the Amsterdam Admirals and cornerback CHRIS THOMPSON of the Berlin Thunder are the NFL Europa League Special Teams, Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for games played the 10th week of the 2007 season (June 15-16), the league announced today.
Pakulak, allocated by the Titans, placed three of his five punts inside the 20-yard line and finished the day with a 51.6-yard average in Amsterdams 21-20 victory over the Berlin Thunder.
In his second season in NFL Europa, Pakulak finished second in the league with a 43.3-yard gross average. This is the former Kentucky punters second career award as he was named the Week 9 Special Teams Player of the Week in 2006.
Fulton had seven receptions for 119 yards and two touchdowns in the Admirals win. The former Arizona State star hauled in a 20-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter from Baltimore Ravens quarterback DREW OLSON and the duo combined on another 20-yard score in the fourth quarter.
A 2006 All-NFLEL team selection, Fulton led the league this season in receptions (49) and receiving yards (650). The 100-yard game in Week 10 marked the eighth of Fultons career, moving him into sole possession of second place in the category in league annals (MARIO BAILEY, 10).
Thompson recorded two tackles and returned an interception 100 yards, tying three others - RONYELL WHITAKER (2006), JERMAINE MAYS (2005) and ARMON HATCHER (2002) - for the longest interception-returns in NFL Europa League history, which were all touchdowns.
With just over eight minutes remaining the third quarter, the former Nicholls State standout thwarted an Amsterdam drive by intercepting a pass and returning it the length of the field to put the Thunder ahead 20-7.
German defensive end BEN ISHOLA of the Hamburg Sea Devils picked up his third National Player of the Week Award of the season by recording three tackles, one sack and a quarterback hurry as Hamburg defeated Rhein 17-13 to advance to the franchises first World Bowl. He also earned the distinction in Weeks 2 and 8.
Ishola, who played college football at Indiana and was in training camp with the Miami Dolphins last summer, tied for fourth in the league in sacks this season with five and recorded 22 tackles.
The Sea Devils will face the Frankfurt Galaxy on Saturday, June 23 in Yello Strom World Bowl XV at Frankfurts Commerzbank Arena. The game will be televised live on NFL Network at 1:00 PM ET.
