  • Report: Giants to trade Shockey to New Orleans

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - The New York Giants have agreed to trade disgruntled tight end Jeremy Shockey to the New Orleans Saints, according to Fox Sports.

The Saints have agreed to send the Giants second-round and fifth-round pick in exchange for the former University of Miami star.

Shockey, selected by New York in the first round (14th overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft, has played his entire six year career with the Giants, compiling 4228 yards and 27 touchdowns on 371 receptions.

During last year's improbable Super Bowl run -- during which Shockey was injured and unable to play -- tight end Kevin Boss emerged, starting two regular season and four playoff games and making nine catches for 140 yards and a touchdown.

The 27-year-old Shockey reportedly engaged in a shouting match with general manager Jerry Reese during the team's recent minicamp, adding to the controversy surrounding the enigmatic tight end.

The Saints had offered the exact same compensation package for Shockey during this year's NFL Draft, but New York rejected the trade proposal. The deal is pending league approval, and Shockey must also pass a physical.
