Jets agree to contract extension with Rhodes
Hempstead, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Jets have signed safety Kerry Rhodes to a contract extension.
Details of the new pact were not available, but the New York Daily News reported Thursday that the contract is worth $33.5 million over five years, with $20 million guaranteed.
Rhodes, a fourth-round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, would not have been eligible for unrestricted free agency until after the 2009 season.
The 25-year-old Louisville product has started all 16 games in each of his first three NFL seasons, accumulating 10 interceptions with 268 tackles. He had a career-high five picks with a pair of sacks and 68 tackles last season.
