  • Alouettes fined, lose first pick

Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The Montreal Alouettes have been fined and lost their first round draft pick, the Canadian Football League announced on Monday.

Due to exceeding the salary cap, which is $4.05 million, by $108,285 last season, the team has been fined $116,570 and have also lost their first-round pick (fourth overall) in the 2008 CFL draft, which is set to take place on Wednesday.

That pick will now go to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at the end of the first round due to that team finishing last season with the fewest amount of wins.

Also suffering a financial punishment were the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who exceeded the salary cap by $76,552 last season and were fined an equal amount.
