  • Ellis, who signed a six-year, $66 million contract in July, underwent successful surgery on his left ankle after a moped accident just a month later -- a procedure that will sideline the 22-year-old until mid-December.

    According to the San Jose Mercury News, Ellis originally told team officials he injured the ankle in a pickup basketball game before coming clean.

  • Magloire suffered a fracture of the third metacarpal in his left hand during Thursday's exhibition loss. The 30-year-old center returned to Miami to be evaluated, while the Heat remained overseas to take on the Nets in London, England on Sunday.

    The South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Saturday that Magloire has the hand immobilized, and is scheduled to be revaluated next week. The paper said that as long as surgery is not required, Magloire will miss six to eight weeks. If he needs surgery the absence could be longer.

  • Magloire was taken to a local Paris hospital, which confirmed a fracture. The two teams were competing in the first of two preseason tuneups in Europe. Magloire will not accompany the team on its second leg of the tour, in London, England. He will be re-evaluated upon returning to Miami.

    Magloire signed with the Heat as a free agent this offseason after splitting the 2007-08 season between the Nets and the Dallas Mavericks. The 30-year- old averaged 1.8 points and 2.9 rebounds in 9.2 minutes per game last season, playing in just 31 contests.

  • The Washington Post cited Wizards' president Ernie Grunfeld, who stated Haywood will have surgery to repair a torn dorsal scapho-lunate ligament in his right wrist. Haywood visited two hand specialists earlier Wednesday, both of whom concluded that surgery was necessary according to the Post.

    He suffered the injury during training camp last week.

  • The injury occurred in Portland's preseason game Tuesday against Sacramento. X-rays taken Tuesday night showed the injury, and further tests on Wednesday confirmed it.

    Webster will be re-evaluated on Thursday to determine a treatment and timetable for his return.

  • The 12-year NBA veteran brings a 25-year coaching career to his new role with the Mavericks. Westphal led Phoenix to the 1993 NBA Finals and was the second- fastest coach in NBA history to reach 150 wins.

    "I can't tell you how excited we are to add Westy to our management team," said president of basketball operations/general manager Donnie Nelson. "The Mavericks have gained a valuable asset. As a player and coach, Paul has pretty much seen and done it all." That includes playing stints in Boston, Phoenix, New York and Seattle. He played for the 1974 NBA-champion Celtics.

  • The deal was announced Wednesday for Gordon, Chicago's leading scorer the past three years. He averaged 18.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 72 games last season. Gordon is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the upcoming campaign.

    The third overall pick in the 2004 draft, Gordon has averaged 18.0 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 316 career games with the Bulls.

  • A 12-year NBA veteran, most currently with the Sacramento Kings, Abdur-Rahim announced his retirement on September 22 due to a reoccurring knee injury.

    Abdur-Rahim was well known in the Western Conference with stops in Portland, Vancouver and Sacramento along with a brief stint in the Eastern Conference with Atlanta. He averaged 18.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game over 830 career contests.

  • The San Antonio Express-News reported Tuesday that Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich expects Ginobili to be sidelined until mid-December at the earliest as he recovers from arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle. Ginobili underwent the procedure on September 3 to correct a posterior impingement of his left ankle.

    The reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year originally suffered the injury in the Spurs' playoff series with the Phoenix Suns. After a rehabilitation program, Ginobili was cleared to play in the 2008 Olympics.
