Yankees' Farnsworth suspended
New York, NY (Sports Network) - New York Yankees reliever Kyle Farnsworth was suspended three games and fined an undisclosed amount on Saturday for his actions during Thursday's game against the Boston Red Sox.
During the top of the seventh inning in the contest at Yankee Stadium, Farnsworth intentionally threw a 97 mile-per-hour fastball behind the head of Boston's Manny Ramirez.
Ramirez dropped his bat and looked at Farnsworth, but never made a move toward the mound. Farnsworth wasn't ejected, though plate umpire Larry Vanover immediately issued warnings to both benches.
Ramirez had homered in two previous at-bats, and the Sox went on to a 7-5 victory.
The suspension was announced by Bob Watson, vice president of on-field operations for Major League Baseball. Farnsworth has filed an appeal and will be eligible to pitch until a hearing is complete.
