Reyes, Mets stymie Phils again
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Jose Reyes' two-run seventh-inning home run was the difference, as the New York Mets topped the Philadelphia Phillies, 4-2, in the second installment of a three-game weekend set from Citizens Bank Park.
David Wright knocked in the other two runs for the Mets, winners in five consecutive games.
Oliver Perez (2-0) held the Phillies scoreless over 5 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and striking out seven to notch the win for New York, despite walking five. Billy Wagner earned his fourth save with a scoreless final inning.
Chase Utley homered and Carlos Ruiz knocked in a run for the Phillies, who have dropped three of four.
Jamie Moyer (1-1) was charged with the loss, after allowing seven hits and two runs in six full frames.
Already ahead by two, the Mets took a 4-0 lead in the seventh as Reyes launched a two-out, two-run homer off Ryan Madson. The extra boost proved key in the late going.
Utley's line-drive homer to right with two down in the home seventh off Scott Schoeneweis put the Phils on the board.
In the eighth, the Phillies loaded the bases against a pair of Mets relievers on walks to Pat Burrell and Eric Bruntlett bookending a single from Greg Dobbs. Aaron Heilman entered the game to face Ruiz and promptly allowed an RBI single, but recovered to fan Geoff Jenkins and Jayson Werth to quell the rally.
Wagner shut down the meat of the Phils' order in the ninth, sending Utley, Ryan Howard and Burrell down in succession to close out the game.
The Mets dented Moyer early, striking for two runs in their first at-bat. Reyes led off with a double, then did not advance as Ryan Church dropped a single to right. Reyes did swipe third with Wright at the plate, then Wright slapped a double to center which scored both runners.
Moyer settled down from there, retiring three in a row to limit the damage.
The Phils loaded the bases in the home third, but came away with no runs after Howard looked at a called third strike.
Perez ran into trouble in the sixth, walking Pedro Feliz and Bruntlett which signaled his exit. Duaner Sanchez ended the inning by retiring pinch-hitter Jimmy Rollins on a grounder to first. Game Notes
