  • Texas Southern coach Robinson steps down

Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Texas Southern head baseball coach Candy Robinson announced his resignation on Tuesday after 19 years at the helm.

Robinson, who won 228 games in the Tigers dugout, steps down after claiming his second Southwestern Athletic Conference title.

Robinson also led Texas Southern to the 2004 SWAC championship, the first in school history.

"I have been thinking about this for two years," Robinson said. "I believe the timing was right.

We won the championship and my daughter will soon graduate from high school. So this gives me an opportunity to spend more time with my family while still contributing to a baseball program I helped to build." Robinson is not leaving the program entirely, as he will serve as Director of Baseball Operations starting July 1.
