  • Georgia rallies, Miami survives

Omaha, NE (Sports Network) - Georgia ended Stanford's seven game winning streak with a 4-3 win, and top-ranked Miami staved off elimination in Monday's College World Series action.

Matt Cerione batted 2-for-3 and drove in the game-winning run, lining a single up the middle with the bases loaded in the seventh to score two and he also added an RBI double in the fourth.

Gordon Beckham added two hits and scored two runs and David Thoms batted 2-for-4 to help the Bulldogs erase an early 3-0 deficit.

Nick Montgomery started for Georgia and pitched three shaky innings, allowing three runs on five hits, a walk and two strikeouts.

The Bulldogs' bullpen, though, was flawless, as Alex McRee picked up the win, throwing 1 1/3 innings, allowing no baserunners and striking out two.

Stephen Dodson pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing a hit, two walks while striking out two, and Josh Fields pitched around a walk and a hit batsman in the ninth to earn the save.

Georgia is now one win away from its first College World Series finals appearance since winning it all in 1990.

Jeffrey Inman pitched 5 1/3 innings for the Cardinal, allowing two runs on seven hits, three walks and striking out five. Austin Yount was tagged with the loss after relieving Inman, giving up two runs in 2 1/3 innings on two hits, two walks and a strikeout.

Jason Castro batted 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and Joey August added two hits and a run scored in a losing cause for the Cardinal, who are looking for their first College World Series title since 1988.

Jemile Weeks hit a two-run homer, and Dennis Raben and Jason Hagerty each drove in two runs to lead the Hurricanes to a 7-5 victory over their cross- state rival Florida State. Blake Tekotte also added a homer for Miami, which is looking for its first national championship since 2001.

Eric Erickson gave Miami five-plus solid innings for the win, giving up one run on eight hits, six strikeouts and two walks.

Kyle Bellamy pitched two scoreless innings in relief, allowing two hits and no walks while striking out three.

The Seminoles made it interesting when Carlos Gutierrez game in to close the game, scoring three runs and leaving the bases loaded when Jack Rye grounded out to end the game.

Buster Posey starred yet again for Florida State, batting 4-for-5 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored.

Dennis Guinn added three hits with a walk, an RBI and a run scored in a losing cause.

Elih Villanueva took the loss for the Seminoles, allowing four runs on six hits and four walks in 3 2/3 innings. The Seminoles have now appeared in 20 College World Series and have been eliminated each time, a tournament record.

Georgia will play on Friday against the winner of Wednesday's elimination game between Miami and Stanford, and will need to win only one of two to advance to the College World Series finals.
