LSU, Fresno State round out field for College World Series
Baton Rouge, LA (Sports Network) - LSU banged out three touchdowns worth of runs on Monday, joining Fresno State in the final eight that will embark on Omaha for the College World Series.
LSU put a crooked number on the scoreboard in the first, tacking seven runs in the fifth to its six spot in the first. In all, the Tigers banged out 24 hits, including four hits and five RBI from second baseman Ryan Schimpf.
The Tigers, the seventh overall seed in the tournament, saw their 23-game winning streak come to end in Game One of the series, but responded to force a decisive third game in the Baton Rouge Super Regional.
Fresno State, which forced a third and deciding game in the Tempe Super Regional against Arizona State, put a six spot on the scoreboard in the seventh, only to see its tickets to Omaha put on standby when the Sun Devils made it interesting with four runs in the ninth.
The Bulldogs and Tigers will join the Miami-Florida Hurricanes, Georgia Bulldogs, Stanford Cardinal, Florida State Seminoles, North Carolina Tar Heels and Rice Owls in Omaha.
