  • Gonzalez gave up three runs on four hits, with four walks and three strikeouts in a no decision for Arizona, which has reeled off four straight wins. Juan Cruz (1-0) pitched a scoreless seventh to record the win.

    "It is a lot of fun pitching when we are scoring runs like this," Gonzalez said. "You still have to be focused every pitch, every inning but it is a lot of fun. The three runs were on three bad pitches. I need to throw with better command because if they don't hit those pitches, they don't get any runs but I did pitch better then last time."

  • The reliever left the Yankees, and was placed on the bereavement list Monday, after learning his father, Harlan, had collapsed at his Nebraska home.

    To make room on the roster, the Yankees sent pitcher Edwar Ramirez to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre of the International League.

  • Dan Uggla worked out of an 0-2 count to draw a walk to lead off the home ninth, and moved to second on a groundout to second base. After Josh Willingham was intentionally walked, Helms came through with a liner up the middle off of Saul Rivera (1-1), and center fielder Lastings Milledge couldn't throw out Uggla at the plate.

    Marlins starter Burke Badenhop pitched only three innings, allowing three runs on four hits and five walks. Renyel Pinto pitched three scoreless innings in relief, and Mike Jacobs and Jorge Cantu each tallied three hits to snap Florida's two-game slide. Kevin Gregg (2-0) got the win despite allowing two runs -- both unearned -- in the top of the ninth.

  • Jon Lester gave up three runs on 10 hits and struck out five through 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision for Boston, which has won three straight and seven of eight. The comeback made a winner out of Javier Lopez (1-0), who recorded the final out in the eighth. Jonathan Papelbon overcame a leadoff single by Hank Blalock in the ninth to notch his sixth save of the season.

    David Ortiz finished 1-for-4 with a run scored and a run batted in, while Kevin Youkilis added an RBI double for Boston. Ramirez scored two runs and walked twice in addition to belting his sixth home run of the season.

  • Burres (2-1) gave up five hits over 5 2/3 innings, with four walks and two strikeouts for the Orioles, who have won three in a row. Johnson picked up his first save of the season after allowing just one hit over the final 3 1/3 frames.

    Kevin Millar went 2-for-4 with a solo homer to power Baltimore's offense, while Ramon Hernandez doubled twice and drove in two. Aubrey Huff doubled and also had two RBI.

  • Sonnanstine (2-1) scattered just three hits, walked a batter and fanned four in the effort as the Rays won for the second time in three games.

    "I felt like tonight I did exactly what I planned," Sonnanstine said. "Everything looked sharper because I was throwing more fastballs. I felt like my fastball was coming out of my hand pretty well."

  • Cook (2-1) allowed two runs -- one earned -- on four hits while walking a batter and fanning four for the Rockies, who have won four straight. Brian Fuentes worked the eighth and Manny Corpas tossed a perfect ninth to record his fourth save.

    Brad Hawpe had a pair of hits and drove in a run, while Garrett Atkins went 2- for-4 with a run scored for Colorado. Todd Helton added three hits.

  • Ryan Sweeney plated two runs, and all but three players in Oakland's starting lineup had at least two hits. Joey Devine (2-0) picked up the win after pitching two scoreless innings of relief, and Houston Street notched a four- out save, his fifth of the season.

    Starter Greg Smith, coming off his first big league win in his last outing, gave up four runs -- three earned -- on six hits and one walk through five innings of a no decision, as Oakland has won back-to-back games after dropping three straight.

  • David Wright knocked in the other two runs for the Mets, winners in five consecutive games.

    Oliver Perez (2-0) held the Phillies scoreless over 5 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and striking out seven to notch the win for New York, despite walking five. Billy Wagner earned his fourth save with a scoreless final inning.

  • Teixeira finished 2-for-4, while also doubling and scoring a run, and Mark Kotsay had a pair of hits and knocked in a run for the Braves, who have won three straight after losing the previous three.

    The club got a solid outing from Chuck James (1-1), who tossed five innings of one-run, four-hit ball. Jorge Campillo followed with two scoreless frames, Blaine Boyer worked the eighth and Manny Acosta picked up his first major league save, allowing one hit in the ninth.

  • Blackburn (1-1) scattered eight hits in 7 2/3 innings, with one strikeout, for the Twins, who snapped a two-game losing streak. The win was Minnesota's second in the club's past seven games.

    Morneau was 2-for-4 overall, while Craig Monroe finished 2-for-3 with a double.

  • Mark DeRosa and Ronny Cedeno drove in two runs apiece for the Cubs, who won for the fifth time in six games. Ryan Theriot went 2-for-4 and scored three runs, while Geovany Soto was 2-for-4 with a run-scoring double as the Cubs pounded out 12 hits and drew 10 walks off Pittsburgh pitching.

    Jason Marquis (1-0) earned the win with six solid innings, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out seven. Marquis also helped himself out at the plate with an RBI double.

  • McGowan (1-1) allowed just two runs while scattering seven hits as the Blue Jays snapped a three-game losing skid. B.J. Ryan struck out the side in the ninth to earn his second save.

    Matt Stairs went 2-for-3 with a run scored for Toronto, while Aaron Hill doubled and scored.

  • Less than 24 hours after St. Louis pounded San Francisco pitching for 11 runs on 13 hits, Lincecum (3-0) struck out five and allowed just six hits over seven innings. Jack Taschner and Tyler Walker combined for a scoreless eighth, while Brian Wilson earned his fifth save in tossing the ninth.

    Aaron Rowand led the Giants offense, going 3-for-4 with a homer and two runs batted in on the day, while Jose Castillo was 2-for-4 with an RBI double as San Francisco snapped a three-game losing streak.

  • The move is retroactive to April 15.

    Everett is batting just .185 (5-for-27) with a double and two runs batted in through his first nine games with the Twins after coming over from Houston in the off-season.

  • During the top of the seventh inning in the contest at Yankee Stadium, Farnsworth intentionally threw a 97 mile-per-hour fastball behind the head of Boston's Manny Ramirez.

    Ramirez dropped his bat and looked at Farnsworth, but never made a move toward the mound. Farnsworth wasn't ejected, though plate umpire Larry Vanover immediately issued warnings to both benches.

  • With Los Angeles' top starters sidelined with injuries, Santana has been a pleasant surprise for Mike Scioscia's club, going 2-0 with a 3.32 earned run average through his first three starts. Santana picked up the win on Monday against the Texas Rangers, as he allowed three runs and seven hits in seven innings.

    Santana has faced off with the Mariners seven times in his career and the right-hander has posted a 3-2 mark to go along with a 5.73 ERA.

  • A 29-year-old Missouri native, Buehrle is 6-1 in 12 lifetime appearances -- including seven starts -- against Tampa Bay, allowing 62 hits and 26 earned runs in 56 2/3 innings.

    He's earned a win, a loss and a no-decision in three starts thus far in 2008, shaking off a rough outing in his March 31 debut at Cleveland to surrender just 16 hits and three earned runs in 14 innings since.

  • David Ortiz broke out of an early-season slump in the opener of this set on Friday with a grand slam while driving in five runs total, as the Red Sox rolled to an 11-3 win. Dustin Pedroia belted a two-run homer and Daisuke Matsuzaka threw into the sixth inning for Boston, winners in six of its last seven games.

    Ortiz, who entered the game just 7-for-63, homered in the third, and Boston scored nine times over a two-inning span to pull away. Despite going 2-for-4, though, Ortiz's average stands at .134 this year.

  • Behind the bats of both Chipper and Andruw Jones, the Braves dominated the National League East, winning the division for 11 straight seasons from 1995-2005, but two straight third-place finishes proceeded Atlanta breaking up the Jones duo.

    Andruw Jones helped Atlanta reach the World Series as a rookie in 1996 and racked up 368 home runs and 1,117 RBI -- ranking fifth in franchise history in both categories -- while winning a Gold Glove in each of his last 10 seasons with the team.

  • After winning a 22-inning marathon in San Diego in a game that began Thursday night and stretched well into the early hours of Friday, Colorado arrived in Houston around 8:15 a.m. local time on Friday after the six-hour, 16-minute adventure that was the longest game in the majors since August 31, 1993.

    However, the Rockies were ready to play last night and posted 12 hits on the way to an 11-5 victory.

  • The Giants aim to remain undefeated this season when Lincecum is on the mound. San Francisco has won all three of the right-hander's appearances this year, including his four-inning relief stint on April 2 that came about after his start was scratched due to the threat of poor weather at the start of the game.

    Lincecum got a win on that day and earned a no-decision versus San Diego on April 8 despite six innings of one-run ball. He then improved to 2-0 on the season Sunday after holding the Cardinals to six hits and two runs over six innings while striking out 11. He struck out Ryan Ludwick and Chris Duncan three times each, though he also didn't face Pujols, who pinch-hit late in the game after not starting.

  • After a disastrous beginning to the season, Kennedy put forth his best effort of the 2008 campaign on Monday against the Tampa Bay Rays, allowing three runs and eight hits in six-plus innings. However, the 23-year-old right-hander, who has never faced the Orioles, had to leave the contest in the seventh after getting hit with a line drive on the hip.

    The bullpen blew the lead and cost Kennedy his first win of the season, but the Yankees eventually won the contest.

  • The Diamondbacks, who already own an eight-game win streak this season, have outscored their opponents 21-3 over their last three wins that includes a 9-0 blanking of San Diego on Friday.

    Conor Jackson finished 4-for-5 with a solo home run, two triples, four RBI and three runs while falling a double shy of the cycle. Justin Upton finished 3- for-4 with a run scored and one batted in, while Eric Byrnes and Mark Reynolds each recorded a pair of hits. Chris Snyder knocked in three runs.

  • Hill was activated from the disabled list on Friday and was 4-5 in 16 starts last year with the club despite a solid 3.42 earned run average, fanning 65 while walking just 25. The right-hander has yet to pitch this season due to tightness in his right forearm.

    Hill did make a start for Triple-A Columbus on Sunday and gave up six runs (5 earned) on nine hits over six innings of work.
